Who needs it.
What it covers.
Most Nassau County shops can do a NYS passenger inspection. Very few are licensed for federal FMCSA annual inspections. If your trucks cross state lines or operate in interstate commerce, federal law requires an annual inspection under 49 CFR Part 396. We are one of the only inspection stations on Long Island authorized to perform it.
Interstate Carriers
Any commercial motor vehicle operating in interstate commerce with a GVWR over 10,001 lbs is subject to FMCSA annual inspection requirements under 49 CFR Part 396. This covers most Class 6, 7, and 8 trucks, semi-trailers, and large passenger carriers.
- Class 6–8 commercial trucks
- Semi-trailers and full trailers
- Trucks crossing state lines
- CDL-required vehicles
- Vehicles with DOT numbers
CVSA Criteria
A federal annual inspection follows CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance) standards. It covers all major vehicle systems. A vehicle that fails and operates anyway puts the carrier at significant liability and DOT fine risk. We inspect everything by the book — not a rubber stamp.
- Brake systems — service and parking
- Tires — tread depth, condition, pressure
- Steering and suspension
- Lighting and electrical
- Coupling devices and fifth wheel
- Fuel systems and exhaust
Your Documentation
A passed federal annual inspection results in a completed inspection report under 49 CFR 396.21, which the carrier is required to retain for 14 months. We provide all required documentation. If a vehicle requires repairs to pass, we can handle most truck mechanical work on-site.
- Official inspection report issued
- FMCSA decal applied
- 14-month retention documentation
- Same-location repair available
- Fleet compliance tracking
